Garden consultation
Sometimes you don't need a full redesign. You just need a calm conversation, a fresh pair of eyes, and some help seeing what's possible.
Book a consultation
What happens during a consultation
A garden consultation is a two-hour on-site visit to your Yorkshire garden, costing £300 + VAT, where I assess your soil, light, drainage, and layout and provide honest, practical design advice with a written summary to take away. We walk through your garden together, and I listen.
I listen to what you'd like to change, what isn't working, and what you'd love to have more of. I also look at things that often go unseen: soil condition, drainage, light patterns through the day, existing plants worth keeping, and the relationship between your garden and the rooms that open onto it.
By the end of the visit, you'll have a clear, practical picture of your options, whether that's a full redesign, a smaller change, or simply a more thoughtful use of what you already have.
A written summary follows after the visit. It's yours to keep and refer to, whether or not you decide to take things further.
There's no pressure to commit to anything. This is simply a chance to understand your garden better, and to feel clearer about what you'd like it to become.

I came to Sally with no real idea of what I wanted, just a feeling that something wasn't right. That turned out to be exactly the right place to start. The consultation gave me more clarity than I'd expected, and the design followed naturally from there.
I start by listening, properly
Before I offer a single suggestion, I want to understand what matters to you. What you love about your garden. What frustrates you. How you'd actually like to use it, and how much time you want to spend in it.
This kind of listening shapes every recommendation I make. It's also, clients often tell me, quite rare.
I also look at what most people miss. Soil condition. Drainage patterns. How the light moves through the day and how it changes between seasons. Where the wind comes from. Which existing plants are worth keeping and which are quietly failing. These details are invisible to most homeowners, but they shape every design decision I make.
Questions about the consultation
How much does a garden consultation cost in Yorkshire?
A garden consultation costs £300 + VAT. That covers a two-hour visit to your garden, a thorough assessment of your site, honest design advice, and a written summary afterwards. There's no obligation to go further.
How do I know if I need a consultation or a full design?
The consultation is always the right starting point. It gives us both the information we need. Many clients find the consultation itself gives them everything they need. Others use it as the foundation for a full design project. You don't have to decide until after we've met.
What happens after the consultation?
You receive a written summary within a few days. From there, the decision is entirely yours. If you'd like to explore a design project, the consultation counts as the first step. Nothing is wasted or repeated.
Will I get a planting list?
A detailed planting plan is part of the Silver and Gold packages, and a personalised plant list is available as an add-on to the consultation. Either way, I won't leave you without something useful to work from.
What happens if I want a full design after the consultation?
The consultation counts as the first step in any design project, so you won't be repeating yourself. Everything we discuss becomes the foundation of the design brief. It's a natural progression, not a fresh start.
What clients say about the consultation
From the very first conversation, Sally was clear that she was designing for us, not for a photograph. She asked questions I hadn't thought to ask myself. The result is a garden we actually use.
Sally has a way of making you feel completely confident. She's seen every garden problem before, and she's calm about all of them. That calmness transfers.
I expected a designer to push her own ideas. Sally was entirely focused on what would work for us. She was honest when something wouldn't work, and that honesty is worth a great deal.
